NYU Langone Ambulatory Care West Side

D

Before I reached out to NYU Langone office via phone call, I got turned down by more than 20 different doctor offices due to their unwilling in providing accommodation for my needs. The phone call happened back in March 2021. So, on the phone call, NYU Langone told me they would provide a sign language interpreter for my first appointment. I frankly had worst expectations because sometimes words could not come true. I was like, "Let's see what happens at my first appointment in May 2021."

They followed up with me by an email to set up an account on their website.
They also followed up by the next phone call to ask if I had a healthcare insurance.

On the day of my first appointment, I showed up in their office and waited in a short line. Once I had my turn, I showed them my printed information. They recognized my appointment information so quick, told me that a sign language interpreter will arrive, and asked me to take a seat until a nurse called for me. The nurse called for me and brought me to one of the rooms. The VRI (Video Remote Interpreting) was ready right there. A couple of minutes later, a live sign language interpreter finally arrived. So, for the entire session, we went with the live sign language interpreter instead of VRI.

The sign language interpreter had to let the doctor and nurses know that they did not need to do the "she/her" questions and they just needed to speak directly with me. I had a bunch of questions answered in a fewer minutes via a live sign language than handwriting by hand for a few hours in the past. What a joy!

The doctor and nurses seemed nice and happy to work with the accommodation I needed.

After my appointment, I got test results on their website. I find them very helpful because I literally had no access to my medical history from my previous doctors. I didn't even know what I had, what I didn't have, and what shots I received.

Overall, my very first experience with NYC Langone (+ live sign language) is such as life-changing and of course quick. Thanks so much for exceeding over my expectations!
