Claremont Resort & Club

It is a beautiful hotel but too bad half was under construction that was difficult for people attending the DWU conference especially with a lot of other hotel guests who are not part of the conference.  I did not stay at the hotel but attend the conference there.  One hostess was really nice as she had the notepad ready to communicate when I got lost finding the meeting room.  She decided to just lead me there which I was very appreciative of her help. Some were helpful and patience with us with notepad and ready to communicate but there are some who trying hard to assistance but were overwhelmed with serving a lot of guests, hearing and deaf in unfinished hotel.

I shared a room with roommates who made the reservation, so I only experienced interacting with the staff in ordering food and drinks and asking for directions to specific locations in the building. I did not once experience resistance or frustrations in communicating with me. They were happy to write back and forth and made sure my stay was a pleasant experience. However, I did notice long lines for checking in, because they didn't have an interpreter for specific timeframes when nearly 300 Deaf women were checking in. It can be time-consuming to write back and forth for each individual when checking in, so I would recommend the staff plan better for this if hosting a conference for Deaf people.

The hotel is gorgeous and sits on a hill. Sort of like a castle in a fairytale. The staff is friendly, which is helpful. However, some of their services are not accessible to me, such as room service. I have no way to reach them when inside my room and have to go down to the lobby if I want anything. I wish there was an easy way around this. The restaurants have been a hit and miss with easy to understand staff. I wish they had a few staff that knew ASL.
