Comedy @ The Carlson

Tom Willard

This club is currently closed because of Covid, but my review will discuss pre-Covid days.

I was trying to get this club to provide live-captioned shows even before they opened in 2017.  After a long period of foot dragging, they finally offered captioning -- through a voice recognition app.  It was terrible.  They need to do captioning with CART and have a transcriber involved.

When it comes to ASL interpreters, they always use the same person, and only because she's an old acquaintance of the manager.  She is not certified. They make her do the whole show herself.  There is no backup plan if she can't make it.  They need to get their interpreters through agencies that can provide the best interpreters, not just someone the manager knows.

Bottom line, I'm a deaf standup comedian and Carlson is my "home club."  I've never been able to attend and understand a single show because they won't provide the reasonable accommodations that would allow me to have effective communication.
