A rebirth of an outdated restaurant building transformed into a bright colorful interior and rich, deep woods greet you as you enter this revamped restaurant. No smells of mildew or mold, just warm tortilla chips and spicy sauces to tempt your nose. The Matt family has a Deaf daughter and the whole family signs, though not all staff sign, they are all comfortable communicating with a Deaf person. My high praise for a company that hires Deaf and creates a Deaf positive culture. Quickly the waitress brought over warm tortilla chips (much better than the cold, stale chips straight from a forgotten bag as experienced at other Mexican slops) with a flavorful melody for a spicy salsa.
My partner ordered a beef taco and saucy BBQ pork sandwich. The beef taco was a fresh concoction of avocado, lettuce, tomato, and beef wrapped in a warm soft tortilla. The BBQ pork sandwich was heavenly, the sauce was so rich and flavorful and the meat was shredded without gristle or fat.
I ordered the chicken enchilada with beans and rice on the side. The rice was not mushy and just divine, honestly the best Mexican rice I've had in my recollection. The chicken was without fat or gristle and shredded with fresh spices and pepper, clearly care was taken to prepare this plate :)
In all honesty, we arrived for a pre-hike lunch, but we came back later for drinks and refueling, and my partner's BBQ sandwich was still teasing my nose. We came back for food and drinks... $5.50 for a large strawberry margarita; the BBQ chicken sandwich was well worth the trip back. I would gladly order that for any occasion or meat for a salad ;)
This restaurant was well-known for Mr. Matt's multiple award winning chili, while we haven't yet tasted it, we will gladly go back. Not having a good BBQ joint around the Shoreline/Greenwood/99 corridor, we both agreed that this restaurant will be a new hangout for music, drinks, and food. The restaurant's outdoor appearance does not give the accurate portrayal of it's spacious interior; it can easily accommodate a post-church Mexican lunch group or family dinner gathering for BBQ ribs/chicken/brisket/pork. There is a spacious bar and dining room to the right of the front door, a beautiful locale for a splendid event.
