Hops n Drops

Our dining experience was much better and more positive compared to my last review. We decided to eat at this place for dinner a few days before Christmas Day. The hostess knew some sign language so that was neat when she introduced herself and shared about knowing some ASL. She helped us get seated at our table and our server came. When it was made known to him that we were Deaf, he communicated with us via paper. Our orders came and our food was delicious. Everything went smoothly with our experience this time. Thank you!

My friend (who was visiting from out of town) and I dined at this place for dinner and drinks. Our table was outside on the patio because it was a nice, hot day. Our server's name was Vanessa and she appeared to be nice. However, there were communication issues such as her talking with the sun shining behind her which made it extremely challenging for my Deaf friend to understand her (lip reading). She also spoke a lot instead of keeping it brief and simple so it was a bit difficult to understand everything that she was saying. At one time, she was still talking when she started to walk away out of my friend's direction so I had to inform my friend that the server was still talking and my friend had to turn around to ask the server what she said.

I liked the place itself, however, we did have problems with the communication part so that was a bit of a bummer. I normally communicate with paper/pen if the server does not know sign language, but my friend is able to communicate a bit via lip reading and hearing aids. The patio was right next to highway 99 which can get extremely loud so she was struggling to understand the server and the factors like sun, server talking rapidly about different things, walking away while still talking, etc. I could sense that she was a bit frustrated with trying to understand the server.

However, I'll still come back again to this place and give it another try to see if another server is more Deaf-friendly and
less of a communication barrier when I use paper/pen 100% of the time during my next visit.
