NE Portland DEQ Test Station

Belledgedesign Seattle, WA

I went to Poppy with a hearing friend, who happens to be an interpreter- what an interesting experience! He voiced my order for me and then when I got my drink, the waiter asked me if it was good by showing his thumb up and down. I gave him a thumb up- he didn't even bother asking my interpreter friend. Thank you for making me feel special and important!

Two people helped me during the car emissions process.

One person was in the front of the queue, directing me to Lane 4. I had to ask him to repeat what I needed to do, and he caught on quickly - explaining that I will have to open the door to get the automobile information listed on the affixed sticker - and that the payment process was simple.

Friendly and patient.

Then the second guy, who did the actual emissions testing and payment - refused to make eye contact. I indicated that I couldn't understand him as he was a bit hard to lipread (on top of not making eye contact). He still didn't make eye contact. Okay.

It was my first time going to a car emissions testing in about 20 years (living in NYC; who needs a car??) and I forgot how easy the process was. But still, it would have been nice to establish a more solid 'connection' for communicating the process.

Let's see how it goes in two years from now....
