BluePearl Pet Hospital

I recently went to the vet with my dog, who has cancer and needs chemo every week for eight weeks. Since I am deaf, I want to tell you about my experience and the challenges deaf people face when trying to learn about their pets' health. Firstly, I want to say the vet staff tried hard to help me understand. Even though there was a bit of a problem talking, they used captions on the phone to share important details. They're also working on using Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) to make things better for deaf customers. Even with their best efforts, I felt a bit confused about my dog's health. The medical stuff was tricky, and it made me feel a bit lost with all the emotions about my pet being sick. I'm thankful the vet team typed things out, but I think they can do even better with how they talk to deaf people. One idea for the vet clinic is to teach the staff how to talk with deaf customers better. They can learn to make medical info simpler, write things clearly, and create a friendly place for deaf people to ask questions. I know taking care of a pet's health is not easy, and the vet team works hard. I hope they keep trying to make things better, like using VRI and finding new ways to talk to all pet owners, including those like me who are deaf.
