De Neve Commons Residential Restaurant

Grace

The establishment has some accessibility for Deaf students, though there seems to be a significant lack of Deaf awareness training provided to employees. After speaking with employees the lack of training was very clear, as two employees stated they personally did not know respectful ways of communication and interaction with the Deaf community. Fire alarms were equipped with flashing lights, and TV screens for entertainment had closed captioning. Specific maps were not designated, but EXIT signs were visually clear in the building. No assistive listening  technology was available according to the employee working the front counter of the establishment. It seems many necessary accommodations are assumed to be provided by the Center for Accessible Education at UCLA, though resources online and in person did not explicitly mention the center. The employees did seem willing to accommodate students, but clearly are not explicitly trained in providing access to every student especially Deaf students. (Grace, Claude, and Ashanti)
