There's a new massage therapist in town and by town I mean INDIANAPOLIS, IN.  This talented woman works all over the country so be sure to make an appointment while she's here!!    Recently my doctor suggested some lymph massage would be helpful as a scan showed nodes in the chest with high calcium deposits.  That prompted my first appointment with Julia Cameron Damon; I've been back twice.  Julia makes me feel so comfortable and welcome the moment I arrive. The peace of room itself helps me relax.   Before I get on the warmed table, Julia makes sure she knows exactly what I want and am comfortable with the oils, music, and incense options.  Julia's communication skills are perfect for both Deaf and hearing clients; she signs and speaks perfectly, even with a mask!    My 3rd massage was a full hour on just feet and calves with sacred oils.   I felt so relaxed that I fell asleep.   I trusted Julia's amazing intuition to know which oils were perfect for my needs.   I look forward to seeing her at least once a month and plan to try each of the various forms of massage she is trained in.  Her current office is on the  2nd floor of The Cottage, near Glendale Mall, east of Broad Ripple.  If stairs are an issue ask her about working in your home.   Also, for my hearing friends, pen & paper can facilitate communication, or use an app called OTTER that types what you say.

In order to support the Deaf Ecosystem, I try to obtain services/visit Deaf-owned businesses whenever possible. Getting a massage from Cam was on my list and when I heard she was moving soon - I decided that I needed to do this sooner rather than later! So I contacted her through FB messenger and made an appointment the following week. I explained that I'm normally not a fan of massages due to a couple bad experiences, she was receptive to that and asked me to explain why so she could approach it differently. She also asked me about what I liked, what I didn't like, what was OK, what was not OK, etc. The best part was the direct communication in ASL as Cam is Deaf herself!

Result - one of the best massages I've ever had. I'll be back and I'll recommend others to go too. The fact her space was so warm and welcoming and groovy added an extra fun touch to the experience!

In October 2018, I had the pleasure of working with Julia Cameron Damon, known as "Cam", at a Mindful Heart Forest Retreat I facilitated in the Pacific Northwest for 11 Deaf adults. I invited Cam, a Certified Massage Therapist, on board to offer my retreat participants massages during their weekend of renewal. Cam put the "ahhhh" back into Fall! Her presence was gentle and welcoming. She took time with each of my attendees to get to know them and tune in to what they needed most. You could really tell she cared about each of us. Cam's hands are pure magic! Her Magical Mystery Massage Tour is aptly named. She has just the right presence, just the right selection of oils and scents, and just the right touch that really soothes the body as well as the soul. Personally, while I knew she was there the first few minutes of my own massage, she soon disappeared and I was only aware of "Spirit" between us. She had blended in to me and I in her. The massage was that magical! My retreat participants and I had such a positive and restorative experience, it left us all wanting more! Cam even offered each of my retreat participants a little token bag, with fresh sage from her home state of Colorado, tied in ribbons and given with love. I meant to post this a while ago after visiting Cam for my first massage a month ago. My wife kept telling me what a great masseuse she was but I have a thing about strangers touching me. I am so glad I got over that and finally went to see Cam. I am Hooked, I will not try any other masseuse and will only go to Cam from now on. I actually fell asleep during my massage because I was so relaxed and when she woke me up and said I was done I just felt so relaxed and stress-free. Cam is soo wonderful! She is Deaf herself and uses ASL, which is a huge plus for someone like me who was initially very nervous about massage (felt like it was a very intimate thing for me). She communicated all information clearly and in a very gentle and respectful manner so I knew what to expect. Her studio is gorgeous, her dog is beyond adorable, and her massage -- I have no words. When she massages my arms for some reason her technique always sends this amazing, radiating pins-and-needles (for lack of a better way to describe it) sensation. It's so relaxing. Being a male and one very attuned with my body- I am very picky when it comes to massages.  I used to have a few "in training" practice on me when I used to work in Boulder for 13 years.  I would then give them feedback on how to improve to help them graduate from the Massage college in Boulder.  This just shows that I have been exposed to many masseurs as well as going to a few parlors.  
When I went to Julia's Magical Mystical place- I immediately felt like it was a place my mind and soul could relax.  Julia's a master at her technique after hours and hours, days and days if not months of her time invested in what she love doing.  This is the key here.  Julia loves what she is doing and it transfers over to your body.
I would not hesitate to use her again.

Massages are easily my favorite forms of self-care and relaxation, and I have been to many massage therapists all over the country.  I can be quite picky, but can confidently say that Cam is one of the best by far!  Her technique is phenomenal, and I always leave her table feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.  

More than that, she is an amazing person and communicator.  As I'm hard-of-hearing, she gives me the choice of whether or not I wanted to listen to any music.  I've never been to any other massage therapist who has asked me that, and sometimes music doesn't feel relaxing to me.  She allows each client to select the perfect massage oil scent for their mood/needs, and explains what properties each one offers.  She taught me a few easy signs to let her know when I wanted more pressure or less, etc.  It's so nice to sign with my massage therapist!

Cam is amazing. Not only do I got to her for management of my migraines, I also go to her so my body can feel great! I've had migraines for years and Cam knows exactly what to do to relieve them for me. She is simply AMAZING and her fingers are absolutely magic! A few while she was traveling near me in California and a couple of times at her calming, scented studio in Longmont. It's a rare privilege as a Deaf consumer to receive clear communication access with professionals. Cam Damon who is deaf and fluent in sign language is located in my hometown, Longmont, CO - 30 mins from Boulder and 45 minutes from Denver. It's refreshing not having to write back and forth to communicate my goals. 
Cam's massage studio is beautifully decorated in deep colorful warm colors with artistically harmonious decoration. There is a shift when you walk in - you are automatically geared for some amazing healing adventure.  
Her massage table has a wonderful heating pad, great for clients with Fibromyalgia, and lots of warm blankets for winter seasons, so I'm always warm no matter what.  There are an array of un/scented oils to choose from and for those who are hard of hearing or hearing - music to pick out too for added pleasure. 
I was honestly surprised that I actually fell asleep during one of her massages, something that I rarely ever do - her fingers are like butter --- glides wonderfully. Cam is willing to listen and learn what I will need specifically due to FMS related trigger points. 
I'm looking forward to the next appointment for reflexology (feet massage to enhance meridian points) as I've been having a lot of feet pain lately.

I simply love Cam and her work! Her work lives up to the name.  I've had about 3-4 massages with Cam, including a personal one in the outdoors, and the recent one was at her lovely, mystical studio. I love her spirit and her hands that work my body, and I always leave feeling refreshed. Her studio is so colorful and relaxing (homey) and I love that she has a collection of oils and lotions and lets me smell and choice them. The only downside is that she lives too far from me! If she was closer, I would become her frequent client. 

She has the gift of making you very comfortable and feeling at ease during the massage. She is also flexible with the intensity of the massage and how deep you want to go. My favorite part is when she uses her feet to massage my back (Ashiatsu massage). Highly recommend her! :D

The bonus is that she's Deaf and uses ASL! So the worry factor about communicating about my body is removed. You can text to make appointments, and she does have a VP if you need to call her.
