I signed up for a 6-week introductory class to Qi Gong and requested a Sign Language Interpreter. The instructor, Kim was great with email communication and it appeared she truly considered honoring my request to an interpreter. However, in the end, she claimed it was an undue burden on her business and she could not afford it. Leaving me no choice but to either drop out of the class or continue and pay for the interpreter myself. I opted to go ahead and pay for it myself as I do realize some businesses truly cannot afford the service. On the first day of class, over 19 people were in attendance. At approx. $90 per person, with 19 people in attendance there is more than $1,700 in registration income. She has many weekly classes at least half the size. It’s hard to believe that a $360 interpreter bill would be an “undue burden” on her business in this particular situation. One thing is certain, my business will not go back to Embrace the Moon and I will continue searching for a deaf-friendly instructor.
